Today we kick off our first ever #wwhchallenge! Last month we asked you to think about a goal you could set for yourself at the first part of 2018. When we started to think about this challenge and how we could include EVERYONE within the Women Who Hike community, it was hard to pick a specific goal that would ensure participation and success for everyone. So, we decided to let you pick your own goal.

We’ve already heard so many awesome and unique ideas and we’re excited to follow all of your journeys for the next 30 days during the #wwhchallenge. So… how does it work?

You, followers and members of @womenwhohike can participate and will be entered to win a Deuter bag of your choice by setting your own personal goal and then using the #wwhchallenge hashtag to announce your goal and by continuing to use the #...

Its another Trail Tuesday Review and Giveaway (on our social media) here at WomenWhoHike! When it comes to gear and doing reviews I feel that it takes more than one or two but a few trips before knowing if a piece of gear is going to make it into the regular rotation, and here at WomenWhoHike we only review our ‘go to’ products.

This winter, I am smitten over this Kuhl Spyfire jacket and am excited to tell you all about it AND give one away to one of you lucky women who hike. @Kuhl was born in the mountains of Utah and their innovative designs and technical fabrics have been enhancing movement and outfitting adventures for 30 years. Every pattern, design and sample sewing teams are in house… so when you buy Kuhl, you’re getting the real deal, an original design that you won’t find anywhere else.

We’re keeping our Trail Tuesday giveaways going today thanks to @BioLite. We will be giving away not ONE but TWO BioLite Powerlight Minis to you and one to gift to a friend, family member or fellow woman who hikes (to win, details)

Last year I, @Im_NicoleMarie wrote a review for this product, the Powerlight Mini and one year later it is still a staple in my backpack and camping supplies when I hit both the road and the trail. The Powerlight Mini is an ultra slim multi use clippable lantern that can be used to light up the trail and will also charge your phone while on the go and off the grid.

The light emits 135 lumens and will glow on the low setting for up to 52 hours. In addition to the white light as shown it also has a setting for red night vision and red/white strobe. I am all about products tha...

Perhaps one of the most key pieces of equipment this season is my Kahtoola microspikes. There is snow on the ground, even in SoCal, and its a safe bet no matter where you are going, that with snow, comes a bit of ice. One of the most common questions we get at @WomenWhoHike is about what to get and where to go to get started hiking in the snow. Being from Oregon and having some experience in different types of snow, trails and climates and my @Kahtoola microspikes provide me much versatility for hiking during the winter season, more so than snowshoes or crampons. In places where the snow stays powder, snowshoes are a good choice (and in fact, very fun) but here in SoCal much of our trails that get snow get hit with the sun quickly, turning it from a powder to ice chips or a sheet of ice. For that reason, m...

We are teaming up with the ladies from HikeItBaby for the 10K Women Trail Project. This is an initiative funded by the REI Force of Nature grant to get women and girls hiking all across North America and we want to see YOU, the #womenwhohike community join us in getting on the trail with your friends, family and local communities so that together we can hit this goal of 10K women on the trail in 2018.

So… how does it work? To participate, register (link in bio) and pick a trail to hike every month for a year, then invite your fellow women who hike to join you. This can be done by using our Facebook groups, all of which can be found on our website. Log your hikes and make sure to add in the number of women you’ve inspired to get out on each hike.

When women come together for a like passion and goal… we can mo...

One of the most frequent questions that I @Im_NicoleMarie get asked is… “what pants are you wearing?” A while back I wrote about my love for the @prAna Meme pants and I’ve since found another pair and some other great pieces for fall hiking, backpacking and travel.

When it comes to apparel I want something reliable and comfortable and since discovering the prAna Zion fabric they have been my go to.

The Zion fabric is both rugged and durable, yet lightweight and flexible enough to move with you. This unique stretch fabric is wrinkle resistant, quick drying, and DWR coated to repel water and spills. Less is more when you’re headed into the backcountry so whether it’s the Meme Pant or the Briann Pant (pictured here) I know that they’re all I need for a few days. I have even slept in both pairs because… they are...

When it comes to outdoor apparel and gear and where to buy it there are a lot of different options out there. It can be overwhelming when researching, shopping for and selecting between all the different brands. It can be commonplace that when we’re building our collection of supplies and gear for hiking, camping and traveling much of what we buy, use and end up not using is learned through trial and error.

When WylderGoods came onto the scene, I @Im_NicoleMarie was particularly excited. These ladies, co-founders Jainee Dial and Lindsey Elliott started an online marketplace of goods and gear that are classic, tried & true and built to last. Whether it’s a rain jacket for the trail or dishes for camping or home, their curated collection of products are things that balance beauty with functionality. Their app...
