This is the BioLite KettlePot and pairs with the Bio Lite CampStove, which I bought last year. Recently, I have been using more of the Bio Lite products and became a big fan of this one while on my overnight backpacking trip to Santa Cruz Island. What’s nice about the KettlePot is the large size (1.5 liter capacity), which may look inconvenient to pack, but the camp stove packs up INSIDE the pot perfectly which actually ends up taking up much less space than some of the alternatives including hauling around a traditional camp pot. One of the things I like about the pot is the handle which folds back in tightly around the pot for storage and are lined with silicone to prevent heat transfer. Not only can you heat up food in the kettle, but liquids as well, and the lid that comes along with it and can be used...

Trail Tuesday Gear Review… & lets talk being in the wild. We at @WomenWhoHike are all about ‘know before you go’. And this book, A Woman's Guide To The Wild, by Ruby McConnell has some helpful tips for those of you who are new to the backcountry, camping and backpacking. Sure, a lot of what you learn about these things you will learn by trial and error, but having had this book years ago, perhaps I would’ve experienced less error. The book has chapters such as Setting Up Camp, Building A Fire, First Aid & Safety, Navigation, and other chapters about food, trail manners and lady matters… yes, as in how to camp when you’re in the midst of ‘that time’ of the month.

Many of the details throughout the book may be considered basic to someone who has spent ample time in the outdoors, but for most of our #WomenWho...

The Deuter Speed Lite 20 is currently my go to daypack. After having worn out my Camelbak, I @im_nicolemarie decided to go for something a little different, partly because I love this color but also because I am a huge fan of my Deuter ACT Lite 45 for backpacking. Deuter makes packs specially designed for a woman, and I stand by their product, structure and materials after having used my ACT Lite for a three day backpacking trip in Yosemite last year. So, when picking a new day pack, I knew I wanted to stay with the Deuter brand. The Deuter brand is dependable, reliable, and well established having been founded in 1898. The Speed Lite 20 bag is especially lightweight, weighing just 1lb and has breathable air-mesh shoulder straps for comfort and quick drying, and are also contoured to best fit a woman’s fra...

Trail Tuesday Gear Review: Bio Lite Power Light. This is a product that I, @im_nicolemarie never leave the house without. I have a story about how I have come to now rely on this product and a cautionary tale to all you solo and women hikers out there who may run into the very same situation I got myself into recently:

No matter how much you hike, how much gear you own or how experienced you are you will undoubtedly one day find yourself on a trail or peak where you don’t have something you need. I, @im_nicolemarie am a stickler for having always mapped out my hikes as well as record my track when I am out on the trail. Recording your track is always a good idea, in case you happen to go off trail or miss a directional step along the way. So, recently I went out on a hike in the late afternoon and prepared...

This is the Merrell All Out Crush shoe from Merrell. This shoe is made for the trail runner but we at Women Who Hike love it for getting out and hiking trails that are mixed terrain as well as any outside adventure that may include some scrambling across and over rocks. I, Nicole wore these twice recently at Red Rocks Canyon in NV and Joshua Tree. If you have ever been in either area you know that your hiking adventure takes you up and over rocks, boulders and these shoes are highly reliable when going down hill or doing some light climbing when going up for the best views. We also love these shoes because of the breathable mesh, perfect for those warm temperatures that are happening now and through the summer. My feet have always felt totally comfortable in them and they will continue to be a go to for th...

I am sure many of our followers have noticed the use of my Camelbak Aventura 22 lately. It particularly roomy for what Camelbak usually has to offer (22L gear capacity) which makes it extremely versatile for all kinds of different needs, with hydration of course being one of them... As the warmer temperatures are upon us, I've fallen in love over this pack for short and even longer journeys. The Aventura 22 is specially designed for a woman's frame with ventilation and specific suspension. It carries 3 liters of water and has multiple compartments for quick grabbing of necessary and small items, as well as ample storage of a little extra gear or change of clothes if needed. This pack moves with me comfortably, at any speed as well as vertical gain. The back panel features top-of-the-line padded pods t...
