Women Who Hike is a worldwide organization that empowers women on and off the trail. you can follow us on social media @womenwhohike. Through our online communities and group hikes, you can connect with women who hike all over the world.
About Our Women Who Hike Groups
We have Facebook groups to help connect women who hike all over the world. You can find a group near you here. You can use these groups to find women who hike in your local community, ask about local trails, gear advice and create your own or attend a meetup or group event.
I don’t have Facebook, how do I find out about group hikes and events?
In addition to our meet ups and group events created in our Facebook groups, we also host our own events. Our group hikes and events are most often times hosted by us and our ambassador team. Our hosted group hikes and events are emailed to members through our website. These events are often not published to our Facebook groups or social media. To receive emails with all of our group hikes and events, become a member on our website. Please note that members will receive all of our group hike emails and outgoing emails cannot be filtered by state.
How do I become a member?
Our membership is currently a one-time fee of $16 and it includes our custom Women Who Hike embroidered patch. Members receive all of our emails to all of our events. Group hike and event emails are sent to member emails about 3-6 weeks in advance. Please note that members will receive all of our group hike emails and outgoing emails cannot be filtered by state. Proceeds collected from our membership go back into the community and ensure that more women are getting outside and on the trail. We are also a 1% For The Planet company and give back to a network of organizations that are working towards a healthy planet. Members also receive additional perks like promo codes for outdoor apparel and gear and are first to know about our giveaways on social media.
Do I have to be a member to attend group hikes?
You do not have to be a member to attend group hikes, but our group hikes are sent to members first and it is the best way to know about a group hike happening near you. Become a member here on our website so that you don’t miss out on our events.
Who can attend a Women Who Hike group hike or event?
If you are registering for one of our group hikes you are welcome to register for you and a friend(s). As a WWH member, you can attend any group hike that we send out via email. Many of our members travel to different states to attend our group hikes. Unless explicitly said all of our events are women (female identifying and non-binary) only. We do on occasion plan co-ed events or events that are open to all. We often times call these events 'community events' and they will be described and labeled as such. We are an inclusive group and community and welcome and encourage all hiking abilities, body type, age, race and ethnicity and LGBTQ who are female identifying or non-binary to become a part of the Women Who Hike community and attend our group hikes and events.
Can I bring my dog on a group hike?
We love dogs! If dogs are permitted on the trail, we leave this decision up to the ambassador who is hosting the hike. If dogs are allowed on a group hike it is noted in the Eventbrite details. Certain trails and group events may not be ideal for your pets to join us. Please keep in mind that sometimes a group hike will have 20+ women hiking with us, so if a large group setting is not ideal for your pup, we suggest leaving them at home.
Can I bring my child on a group hike?
Depending on the trail kids are welcome to come on one of our hikes with you if that is how you prefer to hike. In most cases, moms who do hike with us are bringing their child in a backpack style carrier.
I want to register for a hike, but it says its full?
Women Who Hike is a Leave No Trace community partner. This means that we follow a set of outdoor ethics while we are on the trail. One of those established ethics by Leave No Trace is to be considerate of other visitors. For us, this means adhering to any set limits for groups on the trail and also taking into consideration how many other people are using the trail on the day of our hike. Our group hikes are hosted by ambassadors who are volunteers and we coordinate with their recommendation for group size. If a hike is full we often add a waitlist.
I registered for a hike but need to cancel. How do I do this?
If you have registered for an event and can no longer attend, you must cancel your ticket through Eventbrite. Please do not email us to cancel your ticket. You can cancel your ticket by using the link provided that is in your confirmation email from Eventbrite or by signing into your Eventbrite account. We keep track of all late cancellations and no shows. If you register for a hike and accumulate two late cancellations (within 48 hours of hike date/time) or no show twice, you will be removed from our group hike email lists.
I’m a member but I’m not receiving emails?
If you are a member and you are not receiving emails please email us to let us know. We can either change your email address on file (please include in your email to us) or we can help look into why you are not receiving emails from us. Often times our emails might be found in other folders within your email account. We also recommend adding us, , as a contact to help remedy this issue. If you are a member and neglecting to open our emails over a long period of time, your emails may start bouncing back to us. We can help in assisting you and solving this problem if you contact us via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I placed an order for a membership but have not received my membership package?
Membership packages ship out within 10-14 days of placing your order. We ship first class mail and there are no tracking numbers. If you have not received your order, please FWD us a copy of your order receipt and confirm that your mailing address as recorded on your receipt is correct. If you have ordered a patch with International Shipping please allow for more time for delivery.
How do I become a Women Who Hike Ambassador?
The role of a Women Who Hike Ambassador is to lead group hikes and develop the WWH community where they live. Our ambassadors are volunteers and are women that are experienced hikers who also have unique qualifications for leading groups and empowering women on and off the trail. To inquire about being an ambassador you can email us or fill out our WWH Ambassador Application, Please note that as of 2020, obtaining your Wilderness First Aid certification is REQUIRED to join our Ambassador team. Please only apply if you have your WFA, or if you are able to obtain it within the first 3 months of joining our team. All ambassadors must also be a member through our website. Please inquire about where we are looking to add ambassadors prior to filling out our application.
